Hello, I am Mr Henfield and I am the SCIENCE coordinator at Hayfield Lane Primary School!
At Hayfield Lane Primary School, we recognise the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life and we encourage children to be inquisitive throughout their time at the school and beyond. As one of the core subjects taught in Primary Schools, we give the teaching and learning of Science the prominence it requires.
Science teaching at Hayfield Lane aims to give all children a strong understanding of the world around them whilst acquiring specific skills and knowledge to help them to think scientifically, to gain an understanding of scientific processes and also an understanding of the uses and implications of Science, today and for the future.
Science at Hayfield Lane aims to stimulate, excite and satisfy pupil’s curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them. It develops the natural curiosity of the child, encourages respect for living organisms and the physical environment and provides opportunities for critical evaluation of evidence. Since science links direct practical experience with ideas, it engages learners at many levels and through contextualising science in our curriculum, we provide the children of Hayfield Lane with meaningful learning experiences. Scientific method is about developing and evaluating explanations through experimental evidence and modelling. This is a spur to critical and creative thought. Through science, pupils understand how major scientific ideas contribute to technological change – impacting on industry, business and medicine and improving the quality of life. They learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives, the direction of society and the future of the world.
