Kingfishers

Welcome to The Kingfisher Class!

My name is Miss Ng and I am the teacher in year 2. We have a few adults who help support the children's learning; Mrs Harris,  Mrs Rowles, Mrs Clarke, Mrs Law and Mrs Muxlow.

Year 2 is a very exciting year as the children become more independent and develop determination, perseverance and enthusiasm towards their work. We develop our attitudes to learning and grow to understand the importance of learning new skills.

We have daily lessons of English, Maths, Guided Reading and Read, Write, Inc. Spelling. In the afternoons we enjoy P.E., R.E., Science and topic work. All the different work and activities that we do help us practice and develop the skills that we learn throughout the year.

Welcome Back!

Hello everyone, we are now in the Summer Term. The children have enjoyed their Easter rest and have told their friends all about the fun they had. We have started looking at our new novel, 'The Night Shimmy', which was written and illustrated by the same author as our last novel, Anthony Browne. Our Novel Studies Area has been turned into the bedroom of the main character.

In our Maths lessons, we are working with large numbers using addition and subtraction. We have been doing lots of work on regrouping numbers.

We are still enjoying our RWI Spellings time and can remember a few of the complicated rules. We enjoy it when there is a funny rhyme to read. At the moment we are looking at the suffix 'ed'.

On Tuesday 12th April, we had a special visitor...Florence Nightingale! She was absolutely fantastic and we learnt so much!

As always, Kingfisher Class are working hard and have produced wonderful work! Keep it up!

Reminder

Please bring in a P.E. kit on Tuesdays and Fridays (our P.E. days)! The kit can be brought in on a Monday and left on the peg until Friday. We will send it home on Friday just in-case it needs a wash.

On this page you will be able to see what we have been learning about in class and see examples and pictures of work we have been doing.

This page will be updated regularly so watch this space!!

Please look at our curriculum leaflet below to see what we are learning about this term.

Homework

Homework will be given out every Friday and is due in on the following Thursday. Children will be awarded team points for homework that is handed in before or on Thursday. Homework will consist of a set of spellings (linked to Read, Write Inc. spellings where appropriate), daily reading and one piece of Maths, English or Topic work.

Please encourage your child to do their homework to the best of their ability.

Reading

Reading is a very important skill and we encourage the children to read on a regular basis.  Please remember to sign your child's reading record book. Star readers (children who read at least three times a week) will get the chance to work with the artist, Peter Baldry, to create some wonderful pieces of artwork like the Gruffalo art.

Remember to log onto Active Learn to access Bug Club. If you forget your username it is the first four letters of your first name and the first four letters of your surname. The password is your class name. Please remember to write down what you have read in your reading record book.

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG)

At Hayfield Lane Primary we believe that spelling, grammar and punctuation are very important and are fundamental in the creation of great writers. As part of the new curriculum, we have invested in Read, Write Inc. Spelling (RWI Spelling) which builds upon Read, Write Inc. where the main focus is developing the knowledge of graphemes and phonemes. The children have a practise book and log book where they practise the spelling rules.

They enjoy doing RWI spelling and working with their Perfect Partners (PP).
