In Autumn Term our topic is 'Marvellous Me'.
We are thinking all about ourselves, people who are special to us, our community, and people who help us.
We love getting to know each other and celebrate our class community!
Our first book has been “the colour monster goes to school” and we are exploring our feelings and what we are feeling coming to school and how that changes throughout the day.
We have been getting used it our new classroom environment, exploring the provision and getting involved in lots of fine motor activities to strengthen our muscles!
We have really enjoyed colouring colour monsters based on how we feel and exploring how our feeling change throughout the day.
We have also been exploring our outside classroom and getting to know the rules and how to keep safe. We love being outside and are really enjoying building up the range of activities as we introduce them.
As part of learning about our community, we talked about how we get to school. We made a pictogram of how we came to school that morning, with most of us coming in the car, closely followed by walking!
We also drew how we got to school.
We then looked at maps, first of our school, then our road, and finally our community of Auckley and surrounding areas where we all live!
We made our own maps, both by cutting and sticking, and also drawing onto roads and independently without aids too!
The second text we are looking at is “The Day the Crayons Quit” by Oliver Jeffries.
We have received letters from the crayons, found things of the same colour, and thought about their feelings and where the clues in the letters were to tell us how they were feeling.
The next story we looked at was 'Whose in My Family' By R. Haris.
We thought about who is in our families and how everyone is different, and so are our families!
We looked at our family photos, and talked about how each of our families look different and that is ok - the world would be boring if we were all the same!
Children made houses and places to live in a range of different ways, thinking about the different homes we might live in, and copying patterns and colours to make houses out of lollypop sticks.
When not at the bungalow, we read the story of the Little Red Hen, thinking about the role of farmers and harvest, and what that meant for us.
We also thought about how we can be a good friend and helpful to others and what we need to do to be kind.
As part of our learning around little red hen and farming, we made our own bread!
We followed a recipe to make sure we had all of the ingredients and then mixed them together, using our motor skills to knead them into dough. We left them to prove for a little while and then put them in the oven.
When the bread come out it was delicious! We all REALLY enjoyed trying our warm bread.
To start our learning around the NHS and different jobs that people do within it, we thought about what we already knew. We then read the story of when Isaac broke his leg. This provoked lots of thinking about all of the people who help when you get hurt, and what we noticed about what happened.
We are really refining our idea of colour and purpose when painting, and we think these paintings we did of people who work for the NHS are fabulous!
All children created a painting independently. There were lots of phlebotomists as we really liked learning this word! We dot. Think reception children have ever been so excited about possibly having our blood taken so we can meet a phlebotomist!
We had some real life visitors who work for the NHS come into school to talk to us which was really exciting!
We met a midwife and a paramedic. We weren’t exactly sure what this meant, so before they came to school we thought about what a question is and what we wanted to know.
we wrote down some good questions based on our core question starters, and even remembered to ask these when they came in to talk to us!
