School Vision, Aims and Ethos

SCHOOL STATEMENT

At Hayfield Lane Primary our school motto is BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE. We BELIEVE that all of our children have the right to achieve well- striving to reach their true potential from whatever their starting point.

We believe children have the right to feel safe, secure and emotionally supported as they develop in our care and as a result of this are able to shine, foster belief in their own abilities and ACHIEVE academically as confident, creative, critically thinking, young people. This in turn prepares them well for their future education journey and life beyond Hayfield Lane, as well-rounded adults.

Hayfield Lane also nurtures the joy and magic of childhood via enhanced curriculum experiences for our children, to widen their cultural capital and life experiences.

This is at the heart of our mission statement:

HAYFIELD LANE…. BUILDING CRITICAL THINKERS OF THE FUTURE, WITH A ZEST FOR LIFE-LONG LEARNING, WHO SHARE COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY AS ACTIVE AND EQUITABLE CITIZENS.

The basic expectations every day in school are centred around our SUPER 7 which promote a strong growth-mindset in our children.

The SUPER 7 are as follows:

  1. RESPECT
  2. INDEPENDENCE
  3. KINDNESS
  4. CREATIVITY
  5. AMBITION
  6. TEAMWORK (collaboration)
  7. RESILIENCE

Our curriculum is based around the school mission statement and SUPER 7. Academic content (substantive and disciplinary knowledge and skills) is delivered alongside a pastoral curriculum (Forest School, Wanderlust, Take 5 Mindfulness and Tribe Time) to develop children holistically and to teach them how to take managed risks, foster positive mental well-being, keep physically safe and effectively collaborate with others. This is also achieved via a NOVEL STUDY approach whereby critical thinking/creative BIG PROJECTS, global citizenship, safeguarding and relationship education are driven alongside National Curriculum statements. This brings immersive, practical and real-life purpose to learning. Our approach closely aligns to the Doncaster Education and Skills Strategy which aims to develop effective life-long learning using world-leading research for education improvement.

Emotional well-being and security of our children, alongside high academic expectations, is prioritised, as secure and happy children achieve well and can adapt to the various situations that they encounter in life ; understanding about their future role in a fair and diverse society as active citizens, making a difference for the better.
