This week we continued with our travels and visited China ,and celebrated Chinese New Year. In our role play we enjoyed an amazing Chinese restaurant here we could order food from the menu and try to use chopsticks which also helped our fine motor skills. We were lucky enough to look at some real Chinese artefacts and try some Chinese clothes on. We had a try at painting Chinese numbers too.We also learned how the Chinese Years are named and that this year it is the year of the Snake.
To finish off our learning we made some biscuits from Africa,we weighed out the ingredients and mixed them together then baked them. Then we ate them and we all decided they were delicious. The cakes had a special name Benne Cakes.
This week we have been learning all about Kenya. We started off with listening to some music from Kenya and then we all played lots of instruments and made our own Kenyan music, it was very loud and lots of fun. We have painted a sunset and added some animals in silhouette and they look amazing. In our role play area we booked our trips through our travel agents then went on safari in our very own Jeep and using our binoculars we spotted lots of animals. We also looked at the flag from Kenya and how it was different to our flag.
This week our role play areas have been changed into a safari and a travel agents.
We have been very busy with lots of activities this week, we have made some books saying why it is not a good idea to have a penguin or polar bear as a pet. We counted out some fish for the penguins using tweezers to help with our fine motor skills, we have used different media to create penguins and polar bears ( we think they are pretty amazing) we looked at maps and made a train track around the world as well as complete the world jigsaw, we have also had great fun in our role play area pretending to live at the Arctic. Phew what a very busy first week back.
We have started to learn about our new topic Poles Apart, our classroom has now got a chilly reading area and an Arctic area where we can wrap up warm in the tent, fish for some fish and cook them on an open fire.
