Out of this World

This half term we will be thinking about all things “out of this world!”

We will be starting off by reading Whatever Next by Jill Murphy, and thinking more closely about rockets and the moon.

We asked children before we started our topic what they wanted to find out, and they came up with lots of questions! We are going to try and answer as many of these as we can over the coming weeks, and we cannot wait to get started!

To finish off the half term, we held a space showcase for parents to attend!

Children showed off their rockets and aliens that they had designed and created over the term. We also had lots of activities to get involved in together that linked to our space topic related to what we have been learning.

Children loved having their grown ups in to play and explore with them, and show them the classrooms and our work!

We listened to some outer space theme music, thinking about what we might see in space. We imagined what we saw in the planetarium and how that might look from a rocket ship!

We then looked at lots of different rockets that have gone to space, thinking about their common features and what they need to get to space. Using what we learnt, we then designed our own rockets, ready to start building them and bringing our designs to life!

Planetarium

Today we had a super exciting experience… A planetarium came to school!
We all went inside the dome, and followed the patsy the Alien through space, looking at the different things we might see there!
Patsys planet Ayo was like ours with water, mountains and its own moons, but other planets in our solar system were not like ours at all!
It was very interesting to see and we all used our fantastic listening skills, answering questions about all of the things we had seen!

We started our topic by reading whatever next by Jill Murphy, and thinking about the moon!

we painted the moon in its different phases, and explored our new role play and small world areas!

we have also been thinking about the force gravity and predicted what would happen to cars on ramps from different heights because of the pull of gravity!
