After our introduction to our ‘Groovy Gardeners’ challenge, we went on a walk to a local garden.
We looked at different plants on the way and noticed our surroundings, before getting into small groups and looking around the gardens. We explored in small groups, asking questions to Mrs Neal whose garden it was and looking for things that we really liked and would like to see in our own gardens. We got lots of inspiration for our garden designs and were really respectful using our speaking, listening and teamwork skills that is part of our project!
When back from our walk we drew what we had seen, and talked about what we liked. We also have a new garden centre role play which we were excited to explore!
Our core task was to create scarecrows using nature, thinking about what they would have and why we might need them.
First we collected sticks and leaves that we could use to create our scarecrow. When we had at least 5 sticks/twigs and a leaf we brought them back and put them in a collection pile to use later.
Next we all sang ‘dingle dangle scarecrow’ together and acted out the song.
After that we created our scarecrows using our collections, and thinking about the different parts it might need.
Finally we walked around the circle looking at each other’s scarecrow creations and talking about what we liked about them. We reviewed each other’s work before coming in to get busy with our tasks!
