School Council 2024-2025:
At Hayfield Lane Primary School, our School Council play a vital role in representing the voices of pupils across the school. Each year, children from Years 1 to 6 take part in a formal election process to select their class representatives. Pupils who wish to be considered give a short presentation to their class, followed by a ballot vote to choose a captain and vice-captain. Our Year 6 pupils take on leadership roles as Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer and are responsible for minute-taking during meetings. The School Council meets regularly to share ideas, raise concerns, and suggest improvements on behalf of their classmates.
This year, the School Council is working on an exciting project to create a Peace Garden on the school playground. This special space will offer a calm and welcoming environment where children can reflect, relax, or talk with a friend in a quiet setting.
The Peace Garden aims to support wellbeing and provide a positive place for pupils to go when they need time to think or take a break. The School Council hopes this new addition will have a lasting impact on the whole school, encouraging kindness, mindfulness, and a sense of community.
A suggestion box has also been installed so that pupils can properly submit any problems, ideas, or queries they may have. These submissions are reviewed and discussed by the council during their meetings, helping ensure that all pupils feel heard and included in the decision-making process.
