WHO ON EARTH IS TIM PEAKE?
We loved our topic 'Who on Earth is Tim Peake?' For home learning the Nightingales and Starlings made their own space rockets. They were seen flying all the way around our classrooms. Thank you to everyone who made one. The children loved talking and writing about them.
Reading
Children will be expected to bring their book bags into school everyday. Children will change their books daily by putting their books in the 'changing box'. This book will be a colour banded book according to the ability of the child. Children will read at least once every week with an adult, this will take form in either individual or group reading.
The reading challenge is hotting up. The children need to read to an adult at least five times in a week to stand a chance of winning a wonderful prize. Reading could be, comics, shopping lists, even the cereal box but don't forget to write in those reading records.
P.E.
Children may have an indoor and outdoor PE session every week, therefore it is important that PE kit is correct and in school.
Indoor PE: white t-shirt and blue/black shorts
Outdoor PE: white t-shirt, blue/black jogging trousers, trainers
Home learning
Children will be expected to complete some home learning every week. Home learning will be related to Maths or English learning that is taking place in the classroom. Please encourage your child to do their own work. Home learning is handed out on a Thursday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday. If children do not complete their work on time they will have to do the work at playtime. Children will also be given a topic activity to complete at home once every half term.
Curriculum and topics
Children in Year One follow the National Curriculum, this sets out the objectives for all of the subjects. The key areas in the curriculum are as follows: Maths, English, Science, PE, Computing, History, Geography, Religious Education, PSHCE, Art and Design and Music. Objectives are taught through topic based learning. We have 6 different topics throughout the year, details of which will be sent to you in the form of a Curriculum Overview (also available on this webpage). Throughout the year we will be building up to daily phonics, maths and literacy teaching as well as topic lessons. The amount of sessions the children have weekly will be increased as the weeks go on, this is to aid the transition from Reception to Year One.
Equipment
Every child should have the following labelled equipment at school:
