Arctic pyramid

As part of our science unit and topic work, we created an Arctic food chain pyramid style.  As a group, we had to decide which food group would be our producer and would make up the base of our pyramid.  We then had to add the primary and secondary consumers before adding the polar bears to the top of the pyramid.  Then, we learnt about what would happen if parts of the food chain became endangered or, due to climate change, reduced in numbers.  We looked at ultimately how this would affect the polar bears and also how important each layer of the food chain is.  To see this visually, we removed a number of cups from each layer in turn so we could see how easily the food chain can collapse if one part of it is too large in number or too small and the impact that this has higher up the food chain and also lower down.
