We are really looking forward to meeting the new Wrens and starting our learning journey together.

To start our school year, we looked at the story 'The Colour Monster Goes to School.'  We matched the Colour Monster's colours to his emotions and feelings and linked this to our own feelings around starting school.  We made Colour Monsters out of play-dough and got busy settling into school.

We then read the book 'The Day the Crayons Quit' and were so excited to find letters from the crayons hidden in our classroom each day! We helped the yellow and orange crayon resolve their argument about which one was the colour of the sun and the Wrens decided they should work together to make the sun yellow and orange.

Our next book was 'Who's in my Family?' We learnt that there are lots of different kinds of families and all families are special.  We drew and labelled a picture of the people who lived in our house with us.

We went on an Autumn walk around the field and made faces of people in our family with the things we found.  We built houses in our outdoor area using big construction blocks and crates and even made vehicles to drive.  We played with the small world dolls house, did some leaf rubbings and used the conkers to help us count.

Next we learnt about 'people who help us.'  We talked about real life hero's (although it took some convincing that Spider-Man is not real 😂.) We learnt how people can help us, such as firefighters, police officers, vets, shopkeepers, doctors and nurses and dentists to name but a few.  Our home corner role play area became a vet's and we did a great job caring for the animals.  Outside we built ambulances and fire engines and inside we built a hospital with the construction blocks.

We were then lucky enough to have a visit from a real life midwife and a real life paramedic! Eric's mum and Charlotte's dad came into school to talk to us about their jobs and how they help people in the community.  We had lots of questions to ask them, and we leant so much.

We have now transformed our 'home corner' role play area into a post office/shop.  We have been learning how to post and deliver letters and parcels, taking it in turns to be the shop keeper and buying lots of items from the shop.

We have also been doing lots of outdoor learning, Including writing our sounds with water and paint brushes, exploring how numbers are made up and using the musical to create a parade just like the soldiers on Remembrance Day... We also played our instruments while completing an assault course!!
