To start our topic we read the book Oliver Vegetables.

We then went outside to explore lots of activities based around the book. We harvested vegetables, weighed them to sell on our market stall, used our printing skills to create painting using fruit and vegetables, used our fine motor skills to peel sprouts, made a combine harvester out of crates, made potato people, made delicious food in the mud kitchen and enjoyed eating our fruit snacks in the outdoors. We had so much fun while so much learning was happening!
Our next book was 'Farmer Duck.' This book helped us to learn the importance of working together.

We used our team-work skills to build a slide for the ducks and then put them in number order. We worked together to make a super den and found lots of worms while we worked!
We read the book 'The Little Red Hen' and learnt about the process of harvesting wheat, taking it to the mill to grind into flour and then using the flour to make bread. We had a go at making our own bread, then we had a taste! It was yummy!! We chose our own topping from a choice of butter, jam or chocolate spread, and it's safe to say the chocolate spread was a firm favourite.
We loved our first 'Explorer Week' and we can't wait for the next one!
