Spring

To launch our topic of the Stone Age, we had a visitor in school who brought in a variety of artefacts for the children to explore.

During the visit, children learnt about prehistoric art and created their own cave painting.

In Literacy, children created their own prehistoric setting for their play script. They created their own characters and used this as a hook to write some fantastic play scripts. They also created a piece of music to go alongside their writing and they were able to act it out.

During our Stone Age topic, children looked at the weapons, clothing and houses used across the three periods of the Stone Age and they made comparisons using a Venn diagram.

In our Science, we have been looking at rocks and their properties. Children compared and grouped the rocks based on their properties and they investigated which rock would be the most suitable for a Stone Age tool.

In Design and Technology, children have been working on their sewing skills. They have been planning, making and evaluating their own Iron Age tunics. They have explored a variety of different stitches and made prototypes from different materials before choosing the stitch and material they believe will be the best.
