Core Senior Leaders

  • Louise Tempest

    Head Teacher

    Mrs Tempest is the headteacher at Hayfield Lane Primary. With a background in school improvement consultancy and involvement in national innovation projects, Louise oversees the day-to-day operational workings of the school, making sure that budgets are effectively managed, teaching and learning provision is strong and that school's performance meets set targets. She works closely with the Governing Body to develop the strategic direction of the school and ensures that effective health and safety and safeguarding procedures are followed. She is the Designated Safeguarding Lead (including Prevent) and the Looked After Children Lead. In her spare time she likes to garden, read Agatha Christie who-dunnit books or enjoy a cup of tea and slice of cake in the countryside.

  • Brendan Pell-Culshaw

    Deputy Head teacher

    Mr Pell-Culshaw is the Deputy Headteacher and Curriculum Leader, directly overseeing the areas of PSHE/RSE British Values and Global Citizenship. Working with Mrs Tempest, they oversee all innovation projects for the school, conducting joint research. He is also the Skills Builder Leader in school which develops career based learning and ensures that learning dispositions are embedded across the curriculum, prepares children for life in the workplace. He is also a deputy designated safeguarding lead. In his spare time, Brendan treads the boards as a talented actor in musical theatre, having a previous background in West End productions. He loves to travel the world on far-afield holidays and spending time with his family, walking their dogs.

    Andrea is the Business Manager at Hayfield Lane Primary.

Senior Leaders

  • Samantha Mills

    EYFS Phase Leader

    Mrs Mills is the EYFS Lead and Reception Sparrow Class teacher. She is also the ECT mentor and nursery admissions lead. As part of her role, Sam, in collaboration with the speech and language leader, runs innovation projects linking to Early Years provision, giving feedback to the EEF (Education Endowment Foundation). This is then shared in the local area with other schools. She also liaises with other providers to ensure the effective transition of children into school. She manages the school's use of Drawing Club and WANDERLUST PROVISION (Scandinavian outdoor learning approach). She runs parent sessions to keep EYFS parents informed about school systems and processes. In her spare time, Sam likes to travel and to spend time with her family and friends.

  • Jennifer Ng

    Reading Lead

    Miss Ng is the Reading Leader in school and Year 1 Nightingale teacher . She co-leads on Skills Builder with Mr Pell-Culshaw. Jen monitors all reading provision across school including NOVEL STUDY activities, BUG CLUB, Reading Plus, reading assessments and bespoke reading interventions for fluency and comprehension and cross checks that reading materials match attainment levels. Jen is a 'reflective practitioner mentor' on the Senior Leadership Team who develops teaching and learning. She works closely with the Phonics Lead and Writing Lead to ensure that children progress well throughout their time in school, monitoring any areas for development or support. In her spare time she likes to spend time with family and friends.

  • Tim Wilson

    Mathematics Lead

    Mr Wilson is the Year 2 Ducks teacher and the Maths Leader in school. Tim is also responsible for developing pupil leadership within the areas of CRITICAL THINKING, CREATIVITY and COLLABORATION (3 Cs) and improving stakeholder feedback via Parent Forum. Tim is a specialist Maths Consultant for South Yorkshire Maths Hub, driving innovative practice in this educational field and the development of critical thinking as a whole. In his spare time he loves to watch football (Manchester Utd fan) and runs marathons.

  • Debbie Brooks

    SENDCO

    Debbie teaches 2 days a week in Swifts, year 3. She is also our SENDCO and a deputy safeguarding lead.

  • Rich Henfield

    PE and Sports Lead

    Rich teaches in Falcons, year 4. He is also our sports and PE lead in school.

  • Jo Miller

    Writing Lead

    Jo is our Year 6 Eagles teacher. She leads on writing, whole school.

  • Holly Brough

    F1 Robin Class Teacher and Early Speech and Language Lead

    Holly is our Robin, Foundation Stage 1 class teacher, 4 days a week. She also leads on speech and language referrals as well as being our Early Speech and Language Lead.

  • Kerry Nottage

    F2 Wren Class Teacher

    Kerry is our Foundation Stage 2 (Reception) class teacher in Wrens.

    Sam is our Foundation Stage 2 (Reception) class teacher in Sparrows, as well as our EYFS Phase Leader. She is also mentor for ECTs and nursery admissions lead.

  • Sarah Middlebrook

    Year 1 Starlings Teacher and Early Reading Lead

    Sarah is the Year 1 Starlings class teacher Monday-Wednesday. She also is the Early Reading Lead and runs the RWI program in school.

  • Lisa Ryalls

    Year 1 Starlings teacher, F1 teacher and French Lead

    Lisa teaches in F1 Robins on Tuesdays, and is Year 1 Starling class teacher on Thursdays and Fridays. She is also the French Lead.

  • Jennifer Ng

    Year 1 Nightingales teacher and Reading Lead

    Jen is Nightingale Year 1 teacher. She is also the Reading Lead for the whole school as well as co-leading the Skills Builder work we use to develop our Hayfield Super Eight.

  • Tim Wilson

    Year 2 Ducks class teacher and Math's Lead

    Tim is the Year 2 Ducks class teacher. He is also the Maths Lead. He also leads parent forum.

  • Liz Ryland

    Year 2 Kingfisher class teacher, Music Lead, Take Five Lead and Student Council Lead

    Liz not only is the Year 2 Kingfishers class teacher and Music Lead, she also runs the 'Take 5' programme, developing student ambassadors and runs student council.

  • Kirstie Fleming

    Year 3 Owls class teacher and DT Lead

    Kirstie is the Year 3 Owls class teacher and leads on Design Technology (DT).

    Year 3 Swifts class teacher and SENDCO

    Debbie teaches in Year 3 Swift class on Thursdays and Fridays. She is also the school SENDCO and Inclusion Lead.

    Year 3 Swifts class teacher and Science Lead

    Heather teaches in Swifts Year 3 class, Monday-Wednesday. She will also lead on Science from January 2026.

    Year 4 Hawk Teacher and Geography Lead

    Hannah teaches in Year 4, Hawk Class. She is also our Geography Lead.

  • Rich Henfield

    Year 4 Falcon Class Teacher and PE and Sports Lead

    Rich is our Year 4 Falcon class teacher as well as our Sports and PE lead.

  • Natalie Radford

    Year 5 Kestrel Class Teacher and Art Lead

    Natalie teaches in Year 5 Kestrel class. She is also our Art lead.

  • Riaz Chowdhury

    Year 5 Swan Class Teacher and RE Lead

    Riaz teaches in our year 5 Swan class and he also leads on religious education (RE).

    Year 6 Eagle Class Teacher and Writing Lead

    Jo teaches in Eagle class year 6 and leads on writing whole school. She works closely with our Reading Lead, Jennifer Ng and our Early Reading Lead, Sarah Middlebrook.

  • Paddy Carroll

    Year 6 Phoenix Class Teacher and Computing/Online Safety/AI Lead and History Lead

    Paddy is our Phoenix class teacher in year 6. He also leads on all things computing such as online safety, computing and AI. He is also our history lead for the school.

  • Sarah Scattergood

    Nursery Nurse

    Sarah works in our foundation stage. She support in nursery alongside Mrs Brough and Miss Ryalls. She also cover teaches across all 3 of our foundation classes- Robins, Wrens and Sparrows.

  • Julie Cannon

    Support in Year 4, Maths and Phonic Interventions and cover teacher

    Julie supports in year 4 most mornings and runs interventions for maths and Key Stage 2 phonics most afternoons. She also cover teachers in year 1 for both Nightingales and Starlings.

  • Cath Cross

    Support and cover in Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2

    Cath is a fully qualified teacher and we are very fortunate to have her here at Hayfield Lane Primary School. She covers in both year 2 classes (Ducks and Kingfishers), as well as covers and supports in Year 3 Swifts and Year 4 Hawks.

  • Andrea Law

    Year 6 support and general cover from Year 2 upwards.

    Andrea supports in both year 6 classes in a morning. She covers a selection of classes in an afternoon, demsonstrating excellent rangeand versatility, including year 2 Ducks, year 4 Falcons, year 5 Swans and both year 6 classes (Phoenix and Eagles).

  • Bradley Lyddon

    Year 6 support

    Brad works in year 6 and covers across whole school, as and when needed.

  • Jayne Harris

    Thrive Lead, Family Support Liaison and cover teacher whole school

    Jayne is our Thrive lead in school. She offers social and emotional help to all children that need that little bit of extra pastoral support. She is also our family support liaison and works with familiesin within our community. She also runs Forest School for all classes across the school as well as cover teaches in Year 5 Kestrels as well.

    Kim works full days in F1 Robin Nursery Class.

    Cassie works in Year 2 Ducks in the morning and F2 Sparrows in an afternoon.

    Teaching Assistant Support

    Pearl works in F2 Sparrows in a morning and Year 4 Falcons in an afternoon.

    Jo works in F2 Sparrows in a morning and Year 5 Kestrels in an afternoon.

    Jane works full days in F2 Wren Class.

  • Karen Radford

    Teaching Assistant Support

    Karen works in Year 1 Starlings in a morning and runs reading interventions in Ks2 in an afternoon. Karen also runs after school clubs for targeted reading interventions Monday-Thursdays.

  • Polly Atkinson

    Teaching Assistant Support

    Polly supports in Year 1 Nightingales in a morning. In an afternoon, Polly runs 1:1 phonic interventions for Year 1 children and reading group interventions for targeted children in Year 2 and Year 3.

    Toni works in Year 2 Kingfishers in a morning.

  • Lucy Marsden

    Teaching Assistant Support

    Lucy runs a RWI phonics group every morning before supporting in Year 3 Owls thereafter. She co-runs our Lunchtime Jet Club with Mrs Fox and then completes her day running maths and Ks2 phonic interventions for the afternoon sessions.

  • Chloe Fletcher

    Teaching Assistant Support

    Chloe works in Year 3 Swifts in a morning. She then supports in Year 4 Hawks in an afternoon.

  • Summer Swift

    Teaching Assistant Support

    Summer supports in Year 4 Hawks in a morning. She also runs Speech and Language (SALT) interventions 3 afternoons a week.

  • Sarah Vaughan

    Teaching Assistant Support

    Sarah supports in Year 4 Hawks in a morning. She then supports in Year 2 Ducks, 3 afternoons a week and Year 6 Eagles, 2 afternoons per week.

    Teaching Assistant Support

    Leanne supports in Year 5 Kestrels every morning. She then co-runs our lunchtime Jet Club with Miss Marsden. Her afternoon sessions are split between Speech and Language interventions (SALT) and Thrive alongside Jayne Harris.
